2016 Scholarship Program Announcement

The Deschutes Pioneers’ Association will make available two scholarships to qualified high school seniors of $1,000 each. This is a one-time cash award provided to individual winners in the Fall of the same year they are selected.

All applications must be postmarked no later than April 1, 2016, and mailed to:

Eligibility Requirements

1.  Central Oregon High School Seniors in the following communities are eligible: Gilchrist, La Pine, Bend, Redmond, Sisters, Culver, Madras and Prineville.

2.  Applicant is planning to attend a college, university, community college, technical or trade school.

Application Format

1. Applicant submits a brief letter of introduction, outlining intent and career objectives, including school activities and community service.

2.  Application form.

3.  Letter of recommendation from teacher or counselor.

4.  School transcript

5.  Copy of the page from FAFSA form that indicates the amount of your Estimated   Family Contribution (EFC). You must provide the dollar amount.

6.  A word processed essay of 1,000 words, including works cited page. The essay is to be written on one of the following topics, in a time period of 1976 or earlier:

A. History of the early settlement of a city in Central Oregon, to include the contributions of early pioneers, by describing significant events in said city.

B. A specific pioneer family or individual who lived in Central Oregon and influenced the development of the region,

C. A specific event that occurred in Central Oregon, including a description of the individuals involved and the impact the event had on the development of the region.

Judging

All applications will judged on the basis of financial need, scholarship, school activities, community service, and clarity and historical accuracy of the individual essay.Incomplete applications will not be considered for judging.
